Vitor Belfort Knocks Out Evander Holyfield in the First Round
Evander Holyfield might have suffered the worst defeat of his career as he lost his comeback fight to the former UFC champion Vitor Belfort via stoppage in the very first round. While Belfort was 1-0 as a boxer before facing ‘The Real Deal’, Holyfield’s impeccable resume of 44-10-2 looked promising and sharp before The Phenom’.
However, all of it couldn’t benefit him in the ring. Ending a hiatus of over a decade, 58-year-old Evander Holyfield had nothing more to prove in the ring. But he had the itch to fight and that cost him a big loss.
While MMA fighters often fall prey to boxers, quite predictably in the squared circle, Belfort changed the tide. He took less than a minute to floor Holyfield, leaving the entire combat world stunned. The fight had barely begun and Holyfield was still to grasp momentum. Meanwhile, Belfort came in as the aggressor and unpacked a barrage of shots on his rival.
In no time, Holyfield was planted on the canvas. While the referee could have continued the show, he chose not to risk Holyfield’s condition, especially at the dotage. Thus, ‘The Real Deal’ had to depart with a defeat, which he tagged as an early stoppage in the post-fight interview. Nevertheless, Belfort earned his shot to fame and called out Jake Paul for a potential scrap in the media interaction.

The end of Evander Holyfield?
Holyfield could have opted to remain retired at this stage. But he had been constantly evoking Mike Tyson for a trilogy clash. That may not happen any longer. After today’s performance, Holyfield may not continue his stance in boxing. But a lucrative paycheck can urge him to re-lace the gloves. Relying on the bad blood feud from the past, Tyson vs Holyfield 3 can be the biggest exhibition bouts of recent times.
Hence, we can still see some action coming from Evander Holyfield. But he will clearly have to evaluate his action and age before entering the ring again. Furthermore, Tyson hasn’t shown any special interest in matching himself against ‘The Rea Deal’. So, the potential trilogy fight can remain as a fantasy.
