Venue: Palazzo Versace Hotel, Dubai
The high stakes bout for the men’s bantamweight championship was between neighbours from either side of the border. It featured India’s Dhruv Chaudhary against Pakistan’s Uloomi Karim.
Among all the bouts in this particular card, this was the one most were looking forward to. Like all India vs Pakistan sporting events, this promised action and excitement.
Dhruv is one of the country’s most recognisable MMA fighters and so is his opponent. Both of them brought in a wealth of experience, skills and fan following.
For Uloomi, this is his debut fight in MFN. Dhruv has been a household name in the promotion with 3 victories in his last 5 fights.
Leading up to the fight, Dhruv had missed weight by a bit and wouldn’t get the title despite a victory. Nevertheless, he was in good spirits in the face off and walk ins.
The hotly contested affair started fast with Dhruv putting on the pressure from the get go. He landed some really good shots using his feints and combinations well. In response, Uloomi tried a takedown but Dhruv defends well. Uloomi maintained the pressure and finally secures the hips of Dhruv and slammed him on the ground. Dhruv kept fighting and defends himself well and got out of the ground. As Dhruv became wary of the takedown, Uloomi changes position and lands an overhand right that knocked Dhruv out. The ref brought the fight to an end and Uloomi was declared victor.
