Marc Goddard quits IMMAF, says current circumstances render his inclusion untenable
Marc Goddard, the fan favorite third man in the cage expressed that he is no longer a part of International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) and that the current circumstances at IMMAF render his inclusion untenable.
Marc was a MMA & Submission Grappling competitor before moving into the officiating side of the sport in 2004. Marc quickly became the referee of choice for many of the UK’s leading domestic promotions. In 2008, Marc became the first ever UK Referee to be appointed for the UFC!! He is the first ever UK MMA Referee to be licensed and sanctioned to Referee in the USA in multiple States.
Earlier this year, Marc won the prestigious Fighters Only World MMA Awards “Referee of the Year”. Marc is only the third person in the awards 15-year history [and the first ever outside of North America] to collect this trophy.
As per Marc’s website, he was the Director of Regulatory Affairs for the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF). At IMMAF, he played a pivotal and historical role that saw him develop a single unified amateur rule set, a global talent pool of certified officials and a hands on consultative approach to both achieve and maintain the highest standards of regulation.
The reasons for Marc’s exit from IMMAF are unknown, however his exit is seen as a massive blow to IMMAF. Some are speculating that it could be difference of opinion on how IMMAF has been operating as compared to original philosophy it was founded with.
Besides this, it is also reported that IMMAF is under a massive debt and the USD 1 Million grant from UFC is exhausted.
