
Fifth JU-JITSU ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP, Indian Grapplers dominate in participation
The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) is hosting the fifth edition of Jiu-Jitsu Asian Championship. taking place at the Jiu-Jitsu Arena in Abu Dhabi. The four day event kicked off yesterday and will continue till the 16th of September.
Owing to the pandemic and travel restrictions, Jiu Jitsu events globally have witnessed very less participation. JU-JITSU ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP is the first Asian tournament to be held since the COVID-19 pandemic broke. The last edition took place in Mongolia in 2019.
The event witnesses a total of 408 participation entries in three disciplines, Jiu Jitsu, Contact Jiu Jitsu and Jiu Jitsu fighting. It is interesting to note that Indian Grapplers are topping the charts in terms of participation strength. A total of 82 participation entries are by Indian grapplers, which is the highest from any country (from a total of 18) in the event.
Such a massive participations shows the exponential growth of Jiu Jitsu in the country.
Indian Grapplers at Fifth JU-JITSU ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Team Relentless MMA from Mumbai is participating at full swing. The squad from Relentless includes Susovan Ghosh, Akshata Khadtare, Navdeep Aggarwal, Aditya Sanil and Nishit Talreja.
Other prominent Indian Grapplers participating in the event includes Amarjeet Singh Lohan, Tarun Yadav (Crosstrain) and Jay Bhagel (Crosstrain). Amarjeet won Silver medal at the last Asian Championship held in Mongolia.

Day 1 didn’t prove to be a promising one for the Indian Grapplers. As per the latest news, Akshata Khadtare of Team Relentless has reached the finals in her division and is aiming for the Gold.
