
Anshul Jubli wins the Road To UFC lightweight tournament in dominant fashion

The main event of the preliminary card of Lewis vs Spivac fight card featured the Road to UFC lightweight tournament final. The bout featured undefeated Indian prospect Anshul Jubli against Indonesian powerhouse Jeka Saragih. Anshul secured a spot in the final by beating tournament favorite Kyung Pyo Kim via split decision. Jeka powered his way to the tournament’s final with back to back knockouts in his last two fights.
This particular but was a very special one for the South Asian region. A win for Jeka would’ve made him the first Indonesian fighter signed to the UFC. A win for Anshul would make him the second Indian fighter signed to the UFC.
In the first round, Jeka started with blistering leg kicks and a cheeky taunt, but Anshul remained calm and worked his way close enough and secured a takedown. As soon as the takedown was secured, Anshul began the work. Jeka tried defending off his back but Anshul was controlling the fight on the ground and almost gets a submission. Eventually got free and the fight came back to the feet but Anshul maintained his calm and distance and coasted till the final seconds.
Jeka opened the second round fast with strikes but Anshul once again got another takedown and secures the back. He resumed his work from the and the ground and pound started. Anshul maintained control and kept up the ground and pound. Finally when the ref saw that Jeka could not efficiently defend himself, called off the fight in the third minute of round 2.
This fight makes Anshul the only Indian fighter to secure wins and a contract to the UFC which is a landmark achievement for Indian MMA.
