Angad Bisht defeats Mohamed Gamal in a hard fought victory to become the inaugural MFN flyweight champion.
Venue: Palazzo Versace Hotel, Dubai
Among the four title fights in the MFN 10 card was the title for the men’s flyweight division. The title bout was contested between Angad Bisht and Mohamed Gamal.
Angad is one of India’s top fighters. In Gamal, he faced an opponent who was a former champion in Egyptian promotion AUFC. It was a clash of fighters with two different styles of fighting.
In the opening first two rounds, Gamal showed his striking prowess. Angad was more traditional in his stand up game but Gamal was mixing his strikes in the exchanges. It could be seen in Angad’s legs that Gamal’s strikes were having an effect. Angad stood strong throughout the exchanges and weathered all the hand and leg combos. Angad landed some shots as well but on the feet, Gamal was clearly leading after two rounds.
When the third round began, Gamal kept up his handiwork but Angad started responding. Eventually Gamal started gassing out and Angad started building up the pressure despite getting hit. In one small moment, Angad gets a takedown and secures the back. Gamal tried to defend, but Angad finally sunk his hooks in and finally finished the fight with a rear naked choke.
With this victory, Angad becomes the inaugural MFN flyweight champion and bags India’s 2nd title of the night.
