A young man from the hills, with a goal in his mind and a hope in his heart: Jason Lyngdoh.
Meghalaya, the state has produced many athletes over the decades in many different kinds of sports especially football. The state is known for its love and passion for football. Jason Lyngdoh was one of those kids who grew up playing the world’s biggest sport as he was growing up and loved to play as a striker.

His life changed when he got into a street fight a few years ago. He felt the need to know how to defend himself. So he stepped into an MMA gym 6 years ago, and life changed. He grew into the sport of MMA and has established himself in the national amateur scene. He currently has 8-9 amateur bouts and recently secured gold at the Amateur Contender Series 6 held in Noida.
Coming from a humble background, his parents were a bit skeptical about his path, but the support is ever present. He’s greatly influenced by the Diaz brothers and takes inspiration from how they keep it real inside and outside the cage. Another personality he draws inspiration from is former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan, a stoic individual and excellent fighter.
He learns from his predecessors in the game. He’s trained with some of the pioneers of the sport in the country and northeastern region like Manas Diamary, Anthony Syiem, Abdul Azim Badakshi, etc, while firmly planting his roots in his hometown gym Hillside MMA. He takes great pride in being from Northeast India and knows the amount of talent that the rest of Northeast has to offer in MMA.
He’ll be competing in the lightweight division of the AIMMA national tournament. It will be held on 30th September 2022 in Hyderabad. He has a hope in his heart to qualify for the wildcard entry in MFN 10. However, his sights are set on the present preparation and performance and not the competition or future.
An uneasy but promising journey.
The sport is growing fast around the world and in the northeastern region of India. Jason with 5 of his teammates will be competing in different weight divisions are relishing the challenge and ready to leave their mark. It’s not gonna be an easy task and the best from the country are coming along to get that gold. But for us the fans of the sport, all we see is the sport having a bright future. From our team at One Dojo, we wish Jason, his friends and every participant in the tournament, “ALL THE VERY BEST”.
